Sophomore Selections

It seems that a number bands that delivered brilliant and highly successful debut albums are all releasing their follow up albums around the same time. It really is a test of greatness to see if a band can continually produce quality music and the second album is always the biggest test. Now I’m sure that a number of you, having heard these bands’ previous efforts, will be interested in how their latest albums turned out. While normally I only review albums that have stood the test of time and I’ve come to love, I’ll be making an exception for this worthy cause. This may mean you will see something never seen here before, a negative review! But don’t worry; I’ve been listening to these records non-stop for the last few days so my analysis should be accurate. The bands that I’m talking about and whom I shall be reviewing are: The Killers, The Rapture, Jet and Scissor Sisters. There could very well be more but these are the four that stand out to me (though as I write this, Razorlight comes to mind, will it be any good?). The reviews will appear below this intro in the usually slow interval of one every three days (sorry but I also have a life to attend to), hope you enjoy.

i am continually impressed with the evolutions your site progresses through...in all sincerity. i am looking forward to some (more) justified negatives. keep the critiquing a flowing.

also thanks for the mention we in no way deserved.

thankyou for the kind words. i try my best. in regards to the negatives, it probably will continue but only to an extent. you won't see me telling you about how bad some record that you've never heard of is. rather it will mainly restricted to albums that are being wrongly (in my opinion) hailed as great or as with the recent additions, highly anticipated follow up albums. i'm especially keen to do more of these considering that thanks to the killers, my visitors have been very healthy in the last few days...hehe

Some one like you should realise that The Rapture are on set #3, not #2. For Shame.

is this peter watts, spawn of John and Mary? i say this as i have just come from wikipedia and i felt i ought to convey my deepest sympathies for the loss of your parents. i would also like to try and encourage you, peter, to turn yourself over to the police. the longer you keep this up the worse it will get, and i fear that when they catch you your resistance over the past years may lead to your downfall. Please peter, dont allow them that opoortunity.

ps. how does it feel to be weightless?

hahaha and we all know wikipedia never lies.....I thankyou for your concern but you really shouldn't worry. My parents are always with me, I keep them folded in my pocket. And as for giving myself up to police, i think i would rather keep the legend alive. Besides, I'm on an important mission here in space and wouldn't want to jeopodise it....

p.s. weightless is GREAT. Except when you go for 23 consecutive backflips...that's sickening

p.p.s the rapture? set #2/#3...HUH? Oh do you mean it's their third album......oops.....sophomore significant album....how bout that?

Peter said...

well apparently the rapture's first album was really short....a mini-album as I'm reliably told....so TECHNICALLY, if we're talking FULL-length albums, it really is only their second. Am I forgiven?

Yeah peter. I still love you with all my heart <3

thanks for all...your blog very nice.

Looks like wikipedia have now decided you don't exist, the space walk must be over. Hopefully your will can continue here

Yeah looks like some asshole administrator got rid of it. Damn. I blame the space thing. The fact that when you searched for 'people in space', I came up amongst the three other people that actually ARE in space, meant it was only a matter of time. The funny thing is that I didn't even put that there...it just appeared and made it twice as good.....too good apparently

Thanks Hamdi, I'd visit your blog if I wasn't so unilingual...

What do you know, it's back! Not really....try the link again if you missed the fun

Hey Peach, I suggest you listen to Ratatat. They are brilliant and are playing Rebel Rebel in November after HSC. I have a copy of your wiki saved on my desktop as a webpage

Peter said...

Ah k thanks, I'll add them to my list (literally). Checking out bands is a time consuming process that I'm refraining from for a while.

Yeah I saved the page too, before it had all those edit things, but also before it had the space part. But when i click it, it doesn't display properly....could you send me yours? I think there's associated files that get put in a folder that you may need to send as well....thanks, you :-)

Of course you should say! It encourages me. Though I'm not sure if that's such a good thing.....

not putting words in your mouth but i am hoping you firmly shove it up the new killers release.

this album is probably equal in disaster ratings as any album created by those frenchmen who made "im blue"

I actually did the post a few months ago....i think the problem is that when i edit the post, it gets puts right up the front of the feed....ANYWAY, I'm ashamed to report that while I did kind of rip into it, it was probably nowehere near as much as you would have hoped. It's a disease of mine that I don't want to offend anyone. But when the band's name is The Killers, can you blame me?

Razorlight's album is the best sophmore album of last year. Regina Spektor, TV on the Radio, The Rapture, The Futureheads - hell - even Justin Timberlake's album were good too.

shit . . . . . how could I forget the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Youth Group?
