2006 - A Year In Review

Sure it’s a bit late, but I thought that nothing would be more appropriate than to review the entire year of 2006, seeing what music I listened to and how I felt about it. It is also an opportunity to take a look back at this blog’s first year, even if it did only begin in May. This list may be rather extensive but in no way is it a complete snapshot of the past year. It’s missing EPs, albums I’m yet to discover, albums I’ve forgotten, albums I ignored and of course old albums that I only just discovered. But at least it will at least give you a general idea of what were some of last years biggest albums and which you should perhaps check out. Click the band name to find out more (courtesy of myspace) and click the album to see what I wrote about it.

Ah finished. Finally I feel like I can put 2006 behind me and concentrate on the new year. Not only was that 83 albums, but even more ridiculously, it was 83 myspace links. If you missed some of these albums, CHECK THEM OUT. And I know it should go without saying, but if you find something you like, consider buying the album or going to a show and keep supporting those artists!!

The Scissor Sisters annoy the hell out of me, how does anyone listen to them. Of course I would naturally then consider it sacrilege that Destroyer and Sunset Rubdown are mentioned n the same section, IMHO.
Glad you liked Evangelicals, a hidden gem of 2006. A few records I loved that might have escaped your attention-
Some Echoes-Aloha
Gypsum Strings-Oakley Hall
Tell Me-Catfish Haven
Be He Me-Annuals

i hope for your sake im stupid and blind because i didnt happen to see KLAXONS any where in that list, top or bottom.

tisk tisk tisk

god frowns down on you

Wayne: Aloha and Annuals I only just got (thanks to somebodys year-end list) so I haven't had time to fully evaluate, but they're sounding good so far. As for the others, thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to check them out.

Anonymous: You're not blind, but you are a tad stupid. Klaxons only released EPs and singles last year and this list is exclusively albums. I do have their album (released 2007) and the chances are good that you'll see a review in the very near future

i am goin to hope you were just aiming to be edgy and controversial because some some of your didnt likes are quite surprising.

albums like xui xui & thom yorke are acquired tastes (i hate yorke) but i mean Hot Chip, Liars, Junior boys??? did you buy these albums bcoz imo they are stunning. but each to their own.

love these "things i hate post" though, wbdf lives for people to hate us. especially spazzys fans http://spazzys.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=27934

Maybe peter put albums he didn't like in the didn't-like section because, although it was beyond you how it could of happened, he hated your favorite artist's album. Although he could have done reviews on some of the albums he did like such as muse or raconteurs

Pix: Yeah sorry to say but I really didn't care for Hot Chip. I mean some songs were great but it was just TOO electronic for me to cope with (I need more time!). The list of don't likes does appear rather controversial but thats largely because the 100s of albums that I knew I wouldnt like, I never bothered to listen to. The ones there are albums I thought I may like but just didn't. Beleive me, I gave them more than a fair chance, but nothing.

Ah the Spazzys, if only beating up women wasn't frowned upon. How does it feel to be on their myspace?

Rock Daze: Yeah the reason I never reviewed those albums is because I used to have a policy of not reviewing big name bands cause they didnt need promotion. That was until i discovered how many visitors they brought me.

Jet got a freaking review?? (mumbles angrily in corner) nah fair enough bout big name bands

it also appears that end of year summaries and negative posts attract quite a few visitors.. if the amount comments on the posts are any guide to the amount of visitors you are indeed acquiring..

...is it something i should worry about if i get dazed and confused when commentors use abbreviations??

Peter said...

Comments are in fact a very poor indicator of visitors but yes, these posts do a attract a few.

IMHO: In my honest opinion
bcoz: Because
imo: In my opinion

All clear now? But yes, abbreviations are evil. You should be proud of not knowing them.
